Acid Death – eine der kontroversesten, subversivsten und „ketzerischsten“ Death Metal Bands Griechenlands
Sie nahmen ihre ersten Platten auf, als das Wort „Diskografie“ im griechischen Underground noch neu war.
Sie erhielten enthusiastische Reviews von der Musikpresse aus aller Welt – aber mussten auch einige gegnerische Spitzen und Anfeindungen einstecken, vor allem in ihrem Heimatland.
Sie? Das sind ACID DEATH, eine der dienstältesten griechischen Bands, aktiv seit 1989. Zu Anfang spielten sie klassischen Thrash Metal, entwickelten sich und ihre Musik weiter, und galten bis zu ihrer (vorübergehenden) Auflösung im Jahr 2001 als einer der wichtigsten Vertreter des Progressive Death Metal – für viele sogar auf europäischer Ebene.
Auf der Habenseite standen eine EP, eine Split-LP, drei CDs und unzählige Liveauftritten, u.a. zusammen mit Bands wie Kreator, The Haunted, Impaled, Nazarene, Children of Bodom, Mayhem, Rotting Christ, Coroner Pestilence. Die Jahre nach der Trennung verstärkten ACID DEATHs Reputation noch weiter. Die ehemaligen Bandmitglieder schlossen sich anderen Bands der Szene an und standen jüngeren Bands mit Rat und Tat zur Seite.
2011, zehn Jahre nach der Trennung fanden sich ACID DEATH in einer teilweise erneuerten Besetzung und mit unendlicher Inspiration sowie Kreativität wieder zusammen – zur großen Freude ihrer treuen Fangemeinde.
2012 dann veröffentlichten sie ihr Comeback-Album „Eidolon“, was insgesamt ihre 5. Longplay Veröffentlichung ist.
Im Juni 2015 unterschrieben ACID DEATH einen mehrjährigen Plattenvertrag mit 7hard. Ihr Album „Hall of Mirrors“ wurde am 11.September 2015 weltweit veröffentlicht, der Nachfolger „Primal Energies“ im Jahr 2019.
Factsheet:
-1991. ACID DEATH nehmen mit einer Independent Produktion ihre erste Mini-LP “Balance of Power” auf. Veröffentlicht wurde sie jedoch erst nach der Trennung im Jahr 2001 als Freedownload.
-1993. In diesem Jahr erscheint die erste offizielle EP “Apathy Murders Hope”, veröffentlicht vom griechischen Independent Label Molon Lave Records. Hier ebneten sie sich den Weg für ihren Progressive Death Metal – ein Pfad den sie ein paar Jahre später vollends beschreiten sollten.
-1995. Zwei Jahre später wird eine Split-LP zusammen mit der spanischen Extreme Metal Band “Avulsed” aufgenommen und veröffentlicht. Aufgrund des zu leistenden Wehrdienstes der Mitglieder musste die Band einen lukrativen Plattenvertrag ablehnen.
-1998. Die erste Full Length CD “Pieces of Mankind”, die den progressiven Charakter von ACID DEATH hervorhebt, wird veröffentlicht. Sie enthält eine starke Mischung aus Death Metal und Fusion/Jazz – der erste Gegenwind kam auf. Das Album gerät in Vergessenheit und wird 1999 vom englischen Label Copro records/Casket Music re-released. Daraufhin ernennt das große englische Musikmagazin „Terrorizer“ „Pieces of Mankind“ zum Album des Monats – ein Novum für eine griechische Band!
-2000. Ihr vorerst letztes Album “Random’s Manifest” wird von dem etablierten Label Black Lotus Records veröffentlicht, was ihren Namen und Status im europäischen Ausland bekräftigt. Das Album erhält überall sehr positive Kritiken – nur in ihrem Heimatland werden ACID DEATH belächelt. Das provokative Cover wird in Deutschland wird in Deutschland zensiert, das Album muss vom Markt genommen werden.
-2001. Nach 12 Jahren und vier offiziellen Releases verkündet die Band ihre Trennung, während sie sich gerade zur Pre-Produktion ihres nächsten Albums im Studio befinden.
-2008. “Pieces of Mankind” wird vom griechischen RockHard Magazin auf Platz 1 der
„Die griechische Metalszene: Die 40 markantesten Alben aller Zeiten“-Hitliste gewählt!
-2009. 18 Jahre nach der Aufnahme wird die erste, bisher unveröffentlichte, Mini-LP von ACID DEATH als Freedownload veröffentlicht – ein Geschenk an alle treuen Fans, die ihnen die letzten 20 Jahre die Treue gehalten haben.
– Die Band spielte auch auf vielen großen Festivals. Zum Beispiel: Helavation Festival 2011 (Finnland), Inferniac Festival 2012, (Griechenland), Rockwave Festival 2013(Griechenland), New Long Festival 2013 (Griechenland), Metaldays Festival 2013 (Slowenien), Noisehead Festival 2014 (Griechenland), Total Metal Open Air Festival 2014 (Italien).

-2011. «Life After Death»… A case not rare, but with an another application. The name of the band is strengthened and boasted while practically ACID DEATH «are non-existent for over 10 years». The band announces its return, officially on January 11th.
-2012. On June 1st, reunited ACID DEATH release their 3rd album and 5th official release, titled «Eidolon». The album gains great reviews and comments from everywhere, giving the band the second chance it deserved. ACID DEATH arrange and finance their first tour after the reunion, on Greek soil.
-2013. The material from band’s split LP from 1995 is re-recorded and re-released as independent free digital EP titled «MisleD 2013» . In the same year, on METAL DAYS Festival-Band Competition, ACID DEATH gain position #7 among more than 600 bands from all over the world and their appearance at METAL DAYS fest 2013 is realized.
-2014. The first European tour after band’s return is a fact. The Witch Hunt European Tour together with US Death Metal legends MASTER.
-2015. ACID DEATH sign a 5-year contract with German 7hard/7us Media Group GmbH and band’s 6th official release, the album «Hall Of Mirrors» sees the light on September 11th, gaining excellent reviews and comments from press and fans. For many, this is the most integrated and powerful work ACID DEATH have ever done.
-2016. ACID DEATH re-release its first 2 albums, «Pieces Of Mankind» and «Random’s Manifest» , that were completely sold out the previous years. The albums are re-mastered, including bonus material from the time they were originally recorded and released. At the same time, “Hall Of Mirrors” album, becomes #5 in the article “Greeks Do It Better” by the Greek Metal Hammer magazine, a 12-pages article that presents the 70+ most inspired albums by Greek bands for the years 2015-16.
-2017. After 25 complete years ACID DEATH’s «Balance Of Power» mini album, actually band’s very first, physically unreleased and “lost” recording, is scheduled to be released for first time on its official form, on March 10th. The same season, ACID DEATH’s first ever digital single «Life And Death – feat. Jon Soti» from Hall Of Mirrors album, released by 7hard/7us, is reaching position#11 at German Amazon, charts/ new releases. It is the first time that ACID DEATH enter charts with a release…

-Live activity: ACID DEATH have shared the stage with numerous Greek metal acts over the years, also with the following important names: KREATOR, THE HAUNTED, IMPALED NAZARENE, CHILDREN OF BODDOM, ROTTING CHRIST, MAYHEM, CORONER, ONSLAUGHT, PESTILENCE, SADIST, SEPTIC FLESH.
